ASDECAFE is a second-level sustainable coffee association in Guatemala with over 1,000 members, founded in 2013 by six small producer organizations. Now encompassing seven cooperatives in Huehuetenango and El Quiché, it emphasizes sustainability, equitable income distribution, transparency, and quality improvement. Certified Organic since 2014, ASDECAFE’s exports grew significantly, reaching 23,000 quintals by 2016, supplying markets in the U.S., Canada, and France. One member co-op, ASDEFLOR, formed in 2012 in Todos Santos Chuchumatanes, has grown from 16 to 31 members, predominantly Mayan-speaking, with Organic-certified farms at 1,600–1,800 meters.
